Luca Moretti, a world-famous illusionist haunted by his past, had promised to finally reveal the truth behind the disappearance of his young stage assistant, Isabella Ferretti — a woman who vanished during his legendary illusion twenty years ago and was never seen again.

But before Luca could say her name, the lights went out.

For ninety seconds, the ballroom was swallowed by darkness. When the emergency lights returned, Luca was dead at centre stage — seated upright, his mask removed, and a second Venetian mask placed beside his body. No struggle. No visible wound. No obvious killer.
